At Tuesday night’s City of Tea Tree Gully Council meeting, Modbury Sports & Community Club presented in support of two motions put forward by Councillor Damian Wyld.
Motion 1
- Seek funding from the City of TTG for the engagement of Architects to develop build concept plans and costings for upgrades to our facilities. (Building concept plans deliver basic overview designs and a fairly accurate estimate of cost)
Proposed upgrades are, but not restricted to: Changerooms, Canteen/Barby, Spectator viewing area, Upstairs toilets, Playground, Members lounge.
Motion 1 was passed unanimously by the Council. Engagement will now start to work with all our member areas to get a stronger understanding of our basic requirements which will then inform our discussion with the architects when they are appointed.
Whilst this was a significant step in the right direction, it is only step one of a larger process. A member from each area of the club will work closely with the Sporting Club committee to develop concept plans which will allow us to begin the process of applying grants and other forms of assistance towards the project from both State and Federal governments. We will be working closely with the City of Tea Tree Gully Council through this process in the hope of seeing upgrades completed in the next 2 to 3 years
Motion 2
- City of TTG to commit funding of $100,000 towards the upgrade of the Modbury Oval lights in the 2021 – 2022 financial year.
- City of TTG to contact government elected members to seek a contribution towards the project.
- City of TTG requests a contribution from the Modbury Sports & Community Club.
Motion 2 was passed unanimously by the Council. The passing of the above motion is a very positive outcome but again only step one on in the process, we will need all of our members & supporters to band together to see it come to fruition.
On behalf of the Modbury Sports and Community Club, I want to thank both councillors Damian Wyld & Lyn Petrie for their significant work and support of these motions, and all Councillors for their unanimous support.
The tireless work of all our committees and our club members, both past & present, over several years sees us at this point. Last night was a culmination of countless hours of hard work in the background and a combined effort from all our entities to take a positive first step in the right direction.
I want to thank you all for getting us to this point but also acknowledge that now is not the time to rest on our laurels. We will continue to let you know of upcoming fundraising events & as projects progress.
